Featured here are the side labels of three different versions of Henry George cigar boxes, dating from the turn-of-the-century to the Great Depression. The interior views - which follow this photo in my photostream - show the evolution of the brand. Henry George was a nineteenth-century American writer and philosopher whose famous work, Progress and Poverty, examines social and economic inequality.

A vignette of a partially-veiled lovely set against a floral foreground makes for an attractive box, granted, but it does little to explain why she - or perhaps the cigars - are the pearl of Cuba.
