Incan Terraces

Incan Terraces
The Incans created narrow terraces on the steep mountainsides from which they grew crops to feed the city. Some of the boulders were too large to move so they just built the retaining walls around them.

Machu Picchu is believed to be the estate of a 15th-century Incan emperor. It is located at an altitude of 7,970 feet (2,430 meters) in the Andes mountains of Peru.

A brilliant feat of ancient engineering and planning. The labour force must have been enormous. To build this today would cost £billions. It's a testament to the folk who were responsible for it all, and kind of a shame it's not a thriving city to this day. Mind-boggling really. Ace shot of this astonishing place.
