Pye Kiln

Pye Kiln
The Pye limekiln at Aleck Low near Newhaven in Derbyshire is the largest example of this particular design of intermittent limekiln that I have seen. It is 19.2m long, 4.3m wide and 1.8m deep. Situated high on the hillside with a quarry behind, this was probably built in the early 19th century to burn lime for agricultural improvement around the time that enclosure of the land took place.
