Disused limekilns adjacent to the River Don at Warmsworth Cliff Quarry. These large commercial draw kilns would have fed the burnt lime into keels for transportation across south Yorkshire. The roadway has clearly been built up significantly since the kilns became derelict

Sorry, it is so easy to make assumptions about these things. A keel is a vessel used on rivers, canals and inshore work in the north-east of England. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humber_keel
