Zeche Göttelborn

Zeche Göttelborn
The headframes at the Göttelborn colliery show three distinct phases of development. The central frame on Shaft 3 was erected in 1925/6 by the engineering firm Geisler, whilst the nearest shaft 2 was completed in 1940. Just visible is the massive 90 metre headframe over the 1160 metre, 9 metre in diameter, shaft 4 which is the tallest such structure in the world. Shaft 4 commenced production in 1995 after the expenditure of 200 million euros on development of the colliery to raise 2.5 million tonnes of coal per year. It closed along with the rest of the pit in 2000.

Frans Schols, Fred Fouarge, Berny, Ruebenkraut have particularly liked this photo
