Chert mine

Chert mine
A branch off the main incline in a disused chert mine. The chert seam, which varied from 9ft to 15ft thick, has been entirely removed here and the roof is supported on pack walls made of waste material. The rollers were to accommodate the haulage rope as it passed around the curve.

Interesting they're mining chert, of all things-- What did they use it for?
