Board of Health Rates, 1852, for a dwelling house on George Street, Macclesfield. These days you wouldn't get away with waiting until the middle of next year before paying up!

I was wondering why a board of health would be collecting payments until I came across Wikipedia's article on local boards of health, which explains that they were "local authorities in urban areas of England and Wales from 1848 to 1894. They were formed in response to cholera epidemics and were given powers to control sewers, clean the streets, regulate environmental health risks including slaughterhouses, and ensure the proper supply of water to their districts." Very interesting!
