John Wragg, Butcher, 45 Mill Lane, Sutton

John Wragg, Butcher, 45 Mill Lane, Sutton
A butcher's ticket from June 1864. John Wragg's shop was at 45 Mill Lane, the site of which later became the Sun Inn, now long gone too. Sadly the document is rather faded and I haven't managed to decipher what the product was of which 3oz was purchased for 1s 9½d. Got to love those prize beasts on the header.

I think I can see Lam...so maybe lamb? But it could be Lov...so maybe not lamb!

Thinking further - you wouldn't buy meat in such small quantities, would you? And 1/9d is quite a large sum for 1864.

I have looked again and now think it might be 2lb 3oz. It looks like 10d per pound whatever it is. Mrs Tarboat reckons it says Lam without the 'b'!

Or "loin"? 10d per lb, 1/8 for 2 lbs, and about 2d for the 3 ounces - 1/10 - that's close.
