Clamp kiln

Clamp kiln
There are many, examples of clamp kilns to be seen around the Peak District once you start looking. Here at Sterndale Moor the small quarry is on the right and centre left is the typical rectangular shape with a draw hole in the middle of the low low bank around the kiln. These clamps were operated intermittently as required to provide lime for local use.
