Lovell Telescope

Lovell Telescope
The 76m radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. This is the third largest completely steerable dish in the world and weighs 3,500 tons.

Having been to the similarly sized antenna at Parkes, Australia, this photo doesn't give the scale.

The Jodrell Bank telescope is larger than the one at Parkes with a dish of 76.2m diameter.

I'm not arguing about the exact sizes. What I meant was that it is a similar order of magnitude (compared with the 0.5m satellite tv and 2-5m comms dishes) and that the building around its support, due to its windows, gives a better sense of its 64 meterness than the 76m Jodrell Bank dish has in a paddock without a co-located familiar / known sized object / structure.

I didn't think we were arguing, I was just giving a bit more information about the scale. I took on board your point about no point of reference for scale on my photo. :-)
