Actually standing in the middle of the stream is required :) After that, it's just playing about with different shutter speeds until I get one that I like the look of... that can very depending on how fast the water is moving - I guess this one would have been quite a rapid one, 1/50th perhaps. Slower than that and you need a tripod wobbling about in the stream with you too.
