Scenery 2

Along the fenceline
Taken on a walk near the Bow Valley Ranch, Fish Creek Park, on 9th January. All the bushes were covered in frost and the sun was shining beautifully. We've just had a few wonderfully mild, sunny days but, unless the forecast has changed, temperatures will drop tomorrow and more snow is on the way, yet again ... sigh!

Silhouettes
I saw this beautiful view yesterday when I was driving a few of the tiny side roads off Highway 22X west. I believe this was along 85th St. SW. I liked the white of the nearest snowy hills and the row of bare-branched trees in the foreground. Rocky Mountains seen in the distance. It almost didn't seem "real" : )

Red on white
A bright splash of colour to brighten a rural, winter scene. I liked the black silhouette of the horse against the red. Seen along 85th St. SW, just south of Highway 22X. I love red barns, LOL!

As the world disappeared
This is what we drove through on 27th January, on our way to the Langdon area east of Calgary! We were hoping to see a Snowy Owl or two, but we were out of luck for those. In places, the weather was awful, with blowing snow drifting across the road and resulting in very low visibility. I sharpened this image the full amount, to give it a slight texture to bring out the rather soft tree silhouettes. I might just delete it, however, as I know there is little to it - couldn't decide whether to upload it or not.

Winter star
Snapped a few quick shots along one of the gravel roads just south of the city on 27th January. I love it when the sun shines on the snow. I still can't get used to seeing hay bales covered in white.

Are you ready for spring?
This is how our day started off yesterday! We began our walk around 9:00 a.m., along the eastern side of the Bow River (opposite Hull's Wood, Fish Creek Park). The ice crystals were gorgeous, including on the metal, chainlink fence. The grasses and bushes were spectacular : )
This photo tied for first place in the Super Eco "Whatever the Weather" contest, for March 2009. It now resides in the Super Eco Hall of Fame. My thanks to all those who voted for my photo!

Like gazing through a window
I get a strange feeling when I look at this image, feeling as though I'm looking out through a small-paned window where snow has built up a little around each pane. In reality, this is a chain link fence on a walk last weekend. Everything was briefly covered in beautiful ice crystals, including this fence.

Like a painting
It felt strange looking though the trees a few days ago. It was snowing and everywhere looked rather like a painting, partly I think because of the straight line across the base of each tree and the way the snow was sticking to the trunks.

The other side of the fence
This was taken on 7th February when everywhere, especially near the river, had been turned into a frosted winter wonderland. One of the most beautiful winter days I've experienced. The ice crystals didn't last very long and most had vanished on our return walk.
