American White Pelican

Saw these American White Pelicans flying near the Wyndham/ Carseland Reservoir, Alberta.

Wingspan is approximately 2.8 metres.

One of the many American White Pelicans seen at the Bow River weir towards the end of July 2005. I only saw two Pelicans catch a fish in the whole evening! What patience they seem to have.

Liked the colour of the Bow River just below the weir, where many dozens of American White Pelicans come to fish each summer.

This is an old photo that I thought I would add to my American Pelican Set. To see dozens of these large, impressive birds all together at the Bow River Weir is so amazing. LOL, I always think they look like Zoo escapees!

I took almost all my American White Pelican photos on the same evening, 25th July 2005. The evening sun could not have been any more beautiful or perfect, gradually changing the colour of each bird.

Two more Pelicans from down by the Calgary Weir on the Bow River, taken on 25th July 2005. Many dozens of American White Pelicans can congregate at the Weir in the summer and I just happened to choose a beautiful evening to go down there. The evening sun could not have been more incredible and perfect.

In July 2005, I spent an evening at the weir on the Bow River, Calgary, watching dozens of American White Pelicans with fascination and awe. They are only in Calgary for a short time each year.

Had a fun time watching three American White Pelicans on a stream at the Calgary Zoo yesterday. They spent the whole time feeding, except for a few moments of frenzied splashing. I don't know if this was part of a mating display.
