Thank you to those who helped to add my Long-eared Owl to Explore. I'm still on such a natural high after coming across that little owl two evenings ago! 1. Long-eared Owl 1, 2. Do I see supper?, 3. Northern Saw-whet Owl Created with fd's Flickr Toys .

Male Snowy Owl

These owls really do have a strange-looking face! They almost remind me of seals. Not the same as seeing one in the wild but to balance that out, this male is the proud father of three young ones this year, so I was able to see them, too, at the Calgary Zoo.

First sign of spring

Can't wait for these beautiful Prairie Crocus flowers to push through the ground next spring - and winter isn't even quite here yet! I just don't want to think about what is in between. The highest position for this photo was #70 on 31st October 2006.

Thanks to everyone who took a look at my Prairie Crocus photo, made it a Favorite, or left a comment. I had such a surprise just now to see a splash of colour amongst an otherwise very brown and white selection of photos! Had almost the same effect as seeing that first crocus push through the soil in spring. Brightened my day! 1. First sign of spring, 2. Brrrr...., 3. Do I see supper?, 4. Male Snowy Owl, 5. That tasted so good

This is a cropped version of a previous photo, showing a beautiful Coyote immediately after it had eaten some kind of small rodent. The highest position for this photo was #27 on 30th October 2006.
