Love those legs

Love those legs
It's 6:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning and I'm in a rush to get ready for a wonderful day in the mountains. As usual, I upload my photos before heading out, knowing that I won't feel like doing it when I get back home after a very long day. Two out of the three photos failed to upload, so here is my only photo for today : ) No time to find and edit two other replacement shots. Interesting, I just noticed that it was set so that only I can see this photo. No idea how that got changed - I never, ever change that setting.

This Northern Hawk Owlet, with the piercing eyes, was the cutest little thing. We were so privileged to be able to watch this family of three on a number of occasions. This particular day, 28 May 2012, was the owlet's first day out of the nest and we watched as it climbed over the rough ground and on to fallen logs and eventually clawed and flapped its way up this short, very thin tree and perched on the curved top. Some time later, Mom flew in with a Meadow Vole for the hungry youngster. It always makes me smile when I see an owlet stand on straight legs like this, lol - it just needed a good stretch at that moment.

Haha Anne ... and those eyes ... LOL ... excellent detailed shot of this young'n ... great patterns already forming and love the fuzziness ... well taken and presented.

Well, Winter arrived in Autumn ... late Winter into Spring ... early Winter into Autumn ... thus a very short Summer and Autumn ... not that good ... about 25 cm of snow and heavy winds and lots of shoveling this morning ... but one good thing, it brought in 35 Trumpeter Swans today at Bluffer's ... largest count of this season.

Thanks, Art! Exactly the same here - late spring and early "winter". Add to that the Alberta Flood of the Century in June, and this year left a lot to be desired. Next year is going to be great - right?! Holy smokes - 25 cm of snow?? That must have been a nasty shock, ha. Good news about so many Trumpeters arriving today. Exciting!
