Northern Flicker

Northern Flicker
The bright, partially fanned, yellow tail feathers of this female (no coloured "moustache") mean that this is a feature of a Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker. Not sure if this is a pure Yellow-shafted or a hybrid (mix of Yellow-shafted and Red-shafted). Most of the Flickers we get here are hybrids. Photographed (fully zoomed and heavily cropped) at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary on March 12th. Caught this one in not the most photogenic pose - three of these gorgeous birds were busy in display mode towards each other. Spring can't be far away.
