Pileated Woodpecker
This enormous male Pileated Woodpecker was right near the top of a very tall tree in the owl grove yesterday, when I called in to see "my" three Great Horned Owls in Fish Creek Park. I waited and waited, hoping it would fly down to the base of a nearby tree, but instead, it flew to right near the top of that tree, too. Impossible to get a clear view, but it is such an impressive bird. The red crest glows on a sunny day like yesterday. And, yes, the top branch annoys me, too : )
