Lares.

Lares.
Have a nice day; stay safe.
*********************************
The Lares were lesser deities than the great gods venerated in the official cult, but in reality highly venerated in the context of Roman houses. The Lares (from the Latin lares, "hearth", from the Etruscan lar, "father") represent the protective spirits of the ancestors who watched and protected the gens and the familia.
They are the protective deities of the "familia", of each specific family.

Very interesting.
According to our Michaelis Dictionary, the term Lar comes from the place in the house where the fireplace is lit; the fire; the stove, but it gained a sentimental connotation about the home of a person or family, the Christmas ball, homeland, the family or your home .
Yes, they lived here for a very long time.
And I am glad for it.

Fascinating. I like the variety of shapes and textures in this image...........and the understated colours (although they were probably very bright and cheerful once).

SUper !

In Portugal they have been revered too and the word "LAR" means "home" in Portuguese. Its collective meaning is perhaps a result of the multiplicity of "Lares" (familiae) and also variety of domestic deities, which also encompassed the Penates and Vesta. The word "Lar" becomes synonymous with house from the last century of the Roman Republic

Ciao Annemarie.
A presto.
Un carissimo saluto.
