Majuba mountain area. By the early 20th century small-time mine operators were using gasoline engines to power their equipment. Rather than buy an engine, they'd buy a clunker, drive it up to the mine, and pull the engine there. Lots cheaper, and the engine furnishes its own transportation! This is why you tend to see lots of engineless cars around old mine sites.
