Thanks! Yeah, it's a normally dry watercourse, flowing only during extreme floods. They're ubiquitous in this part of the world, and in deserts generally. In the American southwest they're generally called "washes", sometimes "arroyos" (from Spanish). The terms are equivalent to "wadi" in the Mideast.
