The engine developed problems later on, but the engineer managed to fix it. Travel speed was restricted, but international trains are often delayed. I got off in Apeldoorn.

The statue is of Johan de Witt , political leader of the Dutch republic, murdered by the supporters of the Orange family in 1672. The statue was placed on the spot where he was murdered. The next political murder in the Netherlands was in 2002.

Special offer for only 2 euro. This is a "gevulde koek", or filled cooky. If it was a proper one, it would be filled with ground almonds, now it has ground beans in it. The size is ok, but it was rather fatty to the touch and crumbly at the same time. The package claimed it was the "lekkerste", or best-tasting, but that was hardly the case. The best ones have stayed in the oven for longer, making them crustier. This cookie has a whopping 452 kcal. Eat five of those as a man, and you have enough energy for the day. Grade: 5 out of 10.
