Iranian stamps of the PERSIAN Gulf
There is not always much love between the Persians and the Arabians. One of the points of contention is the name of the Persian Gulf. Arabians call it the Arabian Gulf, while the Iranians call it the Persian Gulf. Although postage stamps should according to the Universal Postal Union “be devoid of political character or of any topic of an offensive nature in respect of a person or a country”, they should also “be closely linked to the cultural identity of the member country or territory, or contribute to the dissemination of culture or to maintaining peace”. The Persian Gulf is of course closely linked to the cultural identity of Iran.
