Worms 2014 – Heiliger Sand – Rabbinental

Worms 2014 – Heiliger Sand – Rabbinental
Valley of the Rabbis.

The Jewish cemetery. It dates from AD 1034 and the oldest gravestone shows a date of AD 1058/59 (Jewish year 4819). The cemetery was in use until 1911, although some burials took place until the 1930s. It is considered the oldest Jewish cemetery in Europe.

Amazing, and no burials since 1930?

A new cemetery was used since 1910 and this one was only used for those who had family graves here. I don't know the present status, whether new burials are allowed. It is quite full too.
