Rock Diva Pins

Painted and collaged pins, featuring Florence Bascom (1862-1945), geologist.

In 1893 Bascom receive a PhD from Johns Hopkins University--the first woman allowed to do so. (She was the second woman to earn a PhD in geology, after Mary Holmes at Michigan.) She was also the first woman hired by the US Geological Survey (in 1896), and a professor at Bryn Mawr.
