Image of Willa Beatrice Brown from the US National Archives uploads to Flickr Commons (see below). Brown was the first African-American woman to earn a commercial pilot's license in the US. She was also the first African-American woman to receive a commission as lieutenant in the US Civil Air Patrol. She taught aeronautics at a high school after the war, and ran for Congress three times.
