So it must be good.

Yes, it's a charming scene, but there's not enough lead in.
The eye needs to be focused on the pub, rather than up in the sky.

The cupola and weather vane, top left, are an important part of the picture and cannot be included with a lesser amount of sky. Also the sky (genuine, not Shepperton) is interesting enough to merit the space given. The other shot focuses on the pub, so this one doesn't need to.

Fine lighting and skies again today in Sussex, but no pictures ensuing.

If the cupola is important, it needs more prominence.
As it is, the weathervane is barely noticeable and far too close to the edge.
The sky is lovely, but needs more south, east and west to balance it.

Why is no-one (so far) faving this picture postcard scene? Have your phans deserted you?

With this sort of picture, where the buildings adjoin and continue in both directions, compromises must be made when choosing how much to include, and here, if anything there is too much included east and west, making the salient points of interest, the cupola and the pub, insufficiently prominent, a criticism which you yourself make.

As for the lack of faving (although on Flickr it has received the normal view/fav ratio) this does not disturb me unduly because this (like your bus window shots) purports only to be a record shot and not a pictorial masterpiece, and like any picture it can only be as good as the subject allows. The imposed limitation here is that (pictorially) the buildings east and west are too far apart, but overall, to my eye, this is as good a picture of Whitchurch that it's possible to get.

I agree there is too much interest east and west, but that wouldn't matter if, say, there was no cupola and you were able to have the top edge just above that dormer window on the right. We would then get a feeling of being led into the picture and able to walk along that street. But the inclusion of the cupola, nice as it is, means that the eye is drawn upwards over the rooftops.

The lack of faves might suggest that your viewers prefer gaudiness to good taste.

And, by implication, this shot represents good taste. Thank you.

My (acknowledged) good taste does allow for a little occasional gaudiness though, especially when (as with those flowers) the gaudiness is natural.
