This is very nice, though I could have done with a bit more sky, in fact a bit more all round.
Was there more space on the original?

I have happy memories of coming here with a friend when we were both fifteen.
No-one else about: just walked in on our own and really got the feel of the place.

1. No; I compose my pictures in-camera, and don't normally need to crop them afterwards.

2. I'm surprised that you didn't get arrows fired at you from the battlements, or worse, that you and your friend weren't captured by a knight, dragged into the castle and taken advantage of. That happened a lot in the olden days.

I've re-developed the original RAW file in Photomatix Pro (my latest obsession in life) and added some more sky in Photoshop, but to add more at the bottom would be a grave undertaking.

A+ It could be improved even more if you darkened the top of the wall slightly and/or upwardly extended a few pieces of foliage to break up the straight line.

I see you've done this now.

I like this one too. I don't remember the details of the place, as it was such a very long time ago. We probably paid sixpence to get in and were then left to our own devices, with no guides or cameras watching us. I just recall it being very quiet and peaceful and I didn't notice any arrows being fired.

See also:Railway Cottage, StokesayI hear that at the moment there's no water in the pond, just a bed of cracked, dry mud.

We haven't been down here for some time, and I have never viewed the castle with the cemetery in front. Lovely photos of the area, and yes I guess the pond will have dried up. We may get some rain tomorrow.
