Pitshanger Manor, Ealing

Pitshanger Manor, Ealing
Pitshanger Manor was owned between 1800 and 1810 by the architect John Soane, who radically rebuilt it as a country retreat, Ealing in those days being a quiet, rural location outside London. The two-story south wing (right) was built in 1768 by George Dance, his first employer.

An extensive restoration (completed in April 2019) returned much of the building to Soane's design.

Andy Rodker, Don Sutherland have particularly liked this photo

A very pleasing shot!
I used to work in an office above the shops in Pitshanger Lane in the early 90s. As I always have a need to know the history and geography of any area I am associatrd with, however briefly, I would have paid a lunchtime visit had it been open to the public at that time. From your notes, it would seem that it was not. I'm pleased they restored it.

It's in Walpole Park near Ealing Broadway (not Pitshanger Lane) and was always open to the public. For many years the lower South wing was the public reference library.
