Toys Were Us - 8 April 2018

Q1 2018 was a bad time for the retail sector and for restaurants. Notable amongst the businesses which went into administration was Toys R Us which was also struggling on the other side of the Atlantic. This branch, in its final days as is clear from the posters in its windows, is at Ocean Retail Park, Burrfields Road, Portsmouth.

The reasons for business failures are, I am sure, complex and varied and it is, perhaps, better not to expound here my views on them. I do hope, however, that everyone viewing this photograph will maintain an awareness of the human cost of the pressures on the retail sector in these times and provide some sympathy for those most directly affected.
