London Today (1) - 1 April 2018
This is one of the realities of life in London today. Within days of the Westminster attack of 22 March 2017, yellow barriers like these in Spring Gardens, SW1 appeared in a number of places. They were described by the Daily Mail as 'odd' and 'bizarre'. Reasonable though the response might have been at the time, they certainly do seem odd now and as ugly as the event which brought them into being. Another reality of the capital's life can be seen in the backdrop to this stark scene. The long vacant Admiralty Arch is supposed to be redeveloped into a Waldorf Astoria hotel together with restaurants and a small number of private residences. For now, all one can see is numerous posters admonishing the passer by not to trespass in a building which is 'occupied' and 'under surveillance 24 hrs a day'. The proposed hotel is not due to open until 2022.
