The Screen on the Green - 12 June 2016

The Screen on the Green - 12 June 2016
The Screen on the Green (1913) is a single screen cinema near Islington Green. One of the oldest continuously running cinemas in the UK, it is an example of the many purpose-built cinemas that followed the regulations set by the Cinematograph Act 1909.

It probably looks better when lit at night rather than at the stark dawn of a Sunday morning but, whatever the time of day, it is a fine piece of early 20th century architecture. I can not decide whether the seemingly random mixture of red and black letters, not to mention the '3' in 'We', is intentional or not.

I'm chuffed plus to know that it's still alive & kicking. Last time I managed to get that far I went to see Pi. Lovely photo. I like the red and black letters. The 3 might well be a wee joke.
