My heart goes out to the innocent Palestinians who have died such as Lina Alalami Khayal (shot in the chest by a tank shell) when she and her sister and a few family members headed south in Gaza carrying white flags, the groups sheltering in churches, etc. For these specific incidents, I blame rogue soldiers (probably poorly trained reservists) and Hamas. Had Hamas not carried out their depraved 7 October attack none of this would be happening, families on both sides would have remained whole and there would be no hostages.

Deeply touching tribute, William!
According to reports, there is little reason to hope that Hamas will release the hostages.
It's heartbreaking, but let's hope for the best anyway.

Unfortunately I must share your opinion. I also wonder how many are actually alive. It was heartbreaking to see Noa Argamani forced to announce the deaths of Yossi Sharabi and Itay Svirsky and cover-up their executions by blaming IDF strikes. I can only pray she is rescued and reunited with her mother and sooner rather than later since who knows the true extent of the horrors she is being forced to endure. And even if they did die as Noa was forced to state, Hamas and Hamas alone is still responsible since they never should've been seized and held captive.

I think we can all get an idea of the true extent of the horror when we recall the Israeli reports of the first Hamas attacks on the Israeli civilians. It is incomprehensible how people can do such things — supposedly in the name of God or in the name of Allah and in general. The actions of Hamas once again reveal the true nature of people who hate God and His creatures from the bottom of their hearts.
May God/Allah help the victims and their families and friends.

Das sind traurige Schicksale, William! Wir können nur wünschen, dass sie am Leben bleiben, genauso wie wir wünschen, dass die notleidende palästinensische Bevölkerung verschont wird.

Sad to say, wishing to stay alive may soon apply to everyone in the world since so many leaders seem determined for a WW III with the media salivating about pitting nuclear powers against each other. It seems like the logic of mutual destruction from the '80s has been forgotten. It also seems like the nuclear powers desire to humiliate their adversaries with no one taking the moral high ground and saying, "Let's pursue peace and reconciliation." If there is a WW III no nuclear power will accept the humiliation of defeat and so it doesn't need mention of what will follow. :(

Lass uns daran nicht denken, William, damit wir noch einen Apfelbaum pflanzen können!

I agree and add Russia-Ukraine to the discussion. Stop the madness, put aside ego and pride and negotiate a just peace. Enough loss of innocent lives and destruction! Stubborness and unrealistic capitulation "peace" proposals will only prolong the bloodshed, suffering and misery. :(

Es todo tan trágico. El sufrimiento está en toda esa tierra y coge a todos por igual. Las culpas de unos pocos las padecen miles de personas inocentes. Pero un genocidio es algo mayúsculo y ahí no valen paños calientes. Cada vida humana tiene el mismo valor. En que lado de la balanza hay más dolor acumulado? Como valorar la destrucción del presente y el futuro de miles y miles de palestinos? Como aquilatar el daño inconmensurable de tanto odio y rencor como se está gestando?
