On first sight it looked as a kind of optical illusion. I first saw a kind of hole in the water. But the title helped :-)

Taken with film-body Canon with adjustable 75-300mm lens, and then commercially digitized; so no EXIF/shooting data ... and I don't remember how far away the subject was; maybe straight down. Small waves were rebounding off the hull of the ship, causing this small floe to bounce up-and-down, thus generating the unusual ripple pattern.

Wow! Nice capture, Wally. Looks like you have more winter than we do. Snow is mostly melted and it's supposed to be in the 40's this week. We are not suffering from a drought but they are further south and to the east in Idaho.
