A photograph from September 2013 - walking the Levadas' of Madeira'... showing one of the many man made water carrying channels - here cut out of the cliff face - and where walkers need to duck and cover beneath a plummeting water fall - carrying the waterproof WG-3 on the day was intentional and the walk,, was great fun.

Tissington village is about as perfect a 'Peak District' village as can be imagined. The prettiest of stone cottages are clustered around a gracious stately home, in a village complete with a duck pond, six ancient wells, a beautiful church and a stream from one of the wells cuts through the village..
At the heart of the village stands the magnificent Tissington Hall, a Jacobean house dating from 1609. It has remained in the hands of the same family, the Fitzherberts, since it was first built and is still a family home today.

England’s monasteries were suppressed by Henry VIII in the late 1530s, and Roche’s monks surrendered the monastery to the king’s commissioners on 23 June 1538. In a brief ceremony in the chapter house they handed over the keys to their buildings and received pensions, and watched the clerks inventory all the monastery’s possessions.
What began, however, as an orderly process degenerated into pillage. Men from the locality descended on the abandoned buildings, carrying away what they could.

'Roche Abbey'

Founded in the 12th century as a monastry of the Cistercian order, Roche Abbey was once home to 50 monks and 100 lay brothers.
Despite the monastry being supressed in 1538, and most of the buildings dismantled, the soaring early Gothic transepts of this Cistercian monastery still survive to their original height and are ranked in importance with the finest early Gothic architecture in Britain. The ruins are now also the centrepiece of a beautifully designed landscape.
Captured using the Sony 'Ultra Wide Converter VCL-ECU2' - attached to the prime 16mm lens - giving an extra wide angle of 12mm..= 18mm in 35mm equivalent.

''Earlsborough terrace''.. - in the 'City of York' .. alongside the river 'Ouse' which is noted for regular flooding during prolonged and heavy rains.. the river water will rise up the steps and continue to cover the gardens - and eventually enter the house.. meaning that all the properties are fitted with the grey watertight gates seen here, and will be tightly closed during floods.
The walls at each side of the gates.. need to be 100% watertight too.
