The paving .... of Portugal...
Around Madeira and here.. in Portugal are what must be literally billions !! of these individual paving bricks... and whole roadways sometimes consist of them. I once did a movie of the skilled ''calceteiros'' tapping each one singly into the wet mortar by hand. The pattern seen here - where the black tiles meet the white - forms an illusion where the ground appears to form a 'hump' in the centre - when in actual fact the pavement here... is perfectly flat.

Taking a nosy around.. as I was..a lone figure wanders the platform of the seemingly unused 'Monte Gordo' rail station.. but it is far from unused. The office - toilets and waiting rooms are long closed and sealed up.. but a timetable is in place and passengers regularly arrive to travel along the single rail which runs from the town of 'Villa Real de Santa Antonio' in the East - all the way - via Faro - to 'Lagos' the most Western stopping point...a total of 135 km - 86.7 miles. We used the train service ourselves.. going from 'Monte Gordo' to 'Tavira' .. a most comfortable journey of around 35 minutes.

Tech. notes.. the 16mm apsc lens used here was fitted with the Sony wide angle converter, made specifically for the F2.8 which has a focal-length reduction factor of 0.75×, the resultant actual focal length is 12mm, equivalent to an 18mm lens - on a 35mm-format camera.

Stanage Edge, or simply Stanage (from "stone edge") is a gritstone escarpment in the Peak District. The northern part of the edge forms the border between the High Peak of Derbyshire and Sheffield in South Yorkshire. Its highest point is High Neb at 458 metres (1,503 ft) above sea level. Areas of Stanage were quarried in the past to produce grindstones, and some can still be seen on the hillside—carved, but never removed... 'Wiki'.
... Beautiful walking for as far as legs can carry you.....
