I was lucky with a few dawn shots from this flat in 2012/2013. It coincided with the 6 months of functionality of my old Canon Ixus digital 700, which was great for sunrises/sunsets and also night shots. Sadly it stopped accepting charge from any battery I tried. Experts couldn't understand it either. it sits forlornly in a cupboard and I wish I could use it again!
More street art. Well, I suppose 'it keeps 'em off…
More interesting and well-executed street art, pos…

Again from the same area in Chamartin, Madrid as the others. There will be more.
The Four Towers and street art.
|
|
|
|
The whole area between here and these 4 towers has been an 'on and off - mainly off - project' for many years to build many more such towers - I read 5 more, then 13 more and then 137 more (OK I exaggerate here!). I think envy of La Defense in Paris runs deep. They can't make up their minds. I think the street art might stay here for years!

Cuatro Torres, viewed from a classroom window in 2011.
Just after dawn (classes start early in companies).
On the horizon, La Sierra de Guadarrama.
For John Fitzgerald; 1970s and 80s blocks of flats…

John, these were the building styles to which I was referring (the shot was going to be for a Friday, but I decided against it). These are actually a little bit posher and certainly more expensive, as they are a little closer to the centre, than the ubiquitous suburban blocks.
The green area looks pleasant enough but it is wasteland and is a dirty yellow colour for 11 months of the year.
Street Art.
The shops at the station!

Graffiti (authorised) on the walls around Chamartin Station car park. Near the Cuatro Torres Business Park, where I take many classes.
The station shop mini-mall must have contributed to the costs of employing well known street artists and they were able to have a plug for the station shopping mall included here!

Rusting metal fencing is everywhere in the suburbs of Madrid. There was a building spree in the 70s and 80s and this was the 'go to' fencing material of the day!
I'm not impressed with the state of the concrete in this footbridge either. I use it 6 times a week. I think it needs replacing ... very soon!
Meeting of styles.

As an English teacher and interested generally in such things, I am always amused at the predominant use of English (OK, American English), rather that the vernacular. To my mind it would have given greater authenticity and authority if it had been in Spanish.

I could have saved this for a Friday and a while ago I would have been grateful to have any kind of fence for Friday but I suddenly find I have more fences than I realised!
A fabulous wall mural

I showed this before but it is worth a more detailed expose.
The street artist, whomsoever she or he is, gets the thoombs oop from me!
This is my favourite of very many excellent street art exhibits on the site of Chamartin Station's car park - to be demolished sooner or later. This will therefore be transient but I will enjoy it while it lasts.

I had a class cancellation today so was left in limbo for an hour or so. As I had to pass through here anyway I remembered these recent murals and so took time to record a few. I will post more over the next few days and weeks.
HFF everyone!

New council sponsored murals (certainly less than a week old) on walls near Madrid's Chamartin station.
The Four Towers in one.

Torre Espacio. In its windows are reflected the other three. Left to right, Torre KPMG (twice), Torre PWC and (just about) Torre Cepsa.
The British Embassy is situated at the top of this one.

Rose

An earlier visit to the rose garden of the Retiro park in Madrid was just that; early! (One month before the other rose shots on this page, but in past years, about the best time for roses here - this season has been very strange). I took a couple of shots of the new growth.
