Sierra de La Cabrera
Bustarviejo Valley from The Sierra de La Cabrera
Early morning from the house - La Sierra de La Cab…
Fog in the Jarama Valley. The Sierra de La Cabrera can be seen in all its craggy but tiny extent. To the left is the brooding hulk of Mondalindo which is not granite and therefore much more rounded. Usually the mountains would be snow covered up till May but not this year.
My sister's shot.
Sierra de La Cabrera. H. A. N. W. E. everybody!

Granite with encina (holm oak) and chestnut tree. On the left is Cancho Largo and on the right; Cancho Gordo, the highest points in this sierra. Best on full screen to fully appreciate the cragginess of Las Agujas de Cancho Gordo - the needles of Cancho Gordo).
Sierra de La Cabrera

Granite country. Canchos Largo and Gordo are the twin peaks on the horizon. Despite the sun, this was an exceedingly cold January day! H. A. N. W. E. everyone!
Monastery, oak and granite.

Convento monasterio de San Julian y San Antonio, encina (a very hardy holm oak) in the foreground and Cancho Largo, the highest point in La Sierra de La Cabrera on the horizon. Granite everywhere! Another very cold winter's day despite appearances!
Suggest better on large.
Rocky Mountain Way. H. A. N. W. E. everyone!

Granite everywhere in the Sierra de La Cabrera! Best on full screen.
I`ve never been the greatest Eagles fan but have always liked this one from Joe Walsh.

Valdemanco beehives
These beehives were stolen too often and so the villagers move them to a different location every few years. Here it is not on any path and when I chatted with the bar owner later he was a bit put out that I had found them! (The next time I came this way, maybe a couple of months later, they had been moved once more!).

Sierra de La Cabrera granite forms.
This was in May 2019, the last time I walked in these mountains.
Best on large.
Spring wildflowers, La Sierra de La Cabrera
In among other wildflowers can be seen dwarf daffodils, Spanish harebells (bluebells) and wild tulips.
From the edge.
Sierra de La Cabrera with the town of La Cabrera below and an interested Griffon vulture or three hovering centre stage!
(As a side note, directly below where the central vulture hovers, and on the horizon, is Algete, where I currently live).
Maybe best on full screen, if only to emphasis the vastness of the Castillian Plain.
H. A. N. W. E. everybody

Granite shapes, La Sierra de La Cabrera.
This strange hanging rocky shape fell to the ground a year or two after I took this shot.
My picnic table.
Well, I haven't shown my favourite picnic table for quite some time and I'm not sure whether I've posted this exact same shot before but even I have, I feel it's worth another airing! Better maybe on full screen.
Picnic table again.

Well it's sufficiently different to the last one to merit another airing, I think!
Convento Monasterio de San Julian y San Antonio.

Monastery with superb granite backdrop.
Sierra de La Cabrera, Madrid province.
One from the past. Not sure if it was posted previously on Ipernity; definitely was on Panoramio in 2011.
Pico de La Miel (Honey Peak)

This is a favourite of mine and I was surprised (but shouldn't have been) when it garnered no interest whatsoever on Panoramio. Ah well. I'm giving it another airing here and I really don't mind what happens!
Sight and Sound, again no connexion to the photo, just love this version!

From Mondalindo to La Sierra de LaCabrera
The Sierra de La Cabrera here in its entirity and doesn't it look small? In the distance is the Embalse (Reservoir) del Atazar. I had more than one Panoramio member ask if it was the River Duero!
I remember this as an extremely hot mid-October day (and a hazy one, hence the lack of sharpness) and the drought was biting hard. Fortunately November brought with it enough rain to alleviate the situation. We are hoping for the same again but a bit earlier this time, please!
Sight and sound; it just amused me! rumble.com/v1jex3v-led-zeppelin-rock-and-roll.html
It's those difficult-to-spot mountain goats again!
Supremely well camouflaged. If I hadn't heard them, I might easily have missed them! Sierra de La Cabrera.

One of three I'll be posting of my favourite sierra. My sister's shot from the house where we live. The neighbouring village is Fuente del Saz de Jarama.
