Coasts, mainly Cornwall

North Cornish coast. Southwest Peninsula Coastpath. My sister's shot taken last month on their brief visit to Cornwall to see our parents.

This floral foreground is no longer there but was swept away by coastal erosion sometime between 2012 and 2014. Google Maps has a sign for a castle at this place. The "castle" is one rampart of an iron age fort, Crane Castle, 95% of which is now under the waves. What's left are the inland ramparts!

Samphire and Asparagus Islands from Carvannel Downs, South west Peninsula Coast Path. Taken 11 years ago and it seems like yesterday! I see this was taken on my first day back from my first year teaching in Madrid. It had been a tough but rewarding year and as there were no classes from June to early September (therefore no earnings), I went on the dole back in Cornwall. I wasn't able to pull that trick in following years, so this was the last (and come to think of it, first!) 3 month summer holiday I had!

Another one from this place. The last one was from my sister this year. I've not yet been here in foul weather but can imagine the despair and terror of those ships' crews driven ashore here - and they were, in their thousands!

How do I know? Well I'm standing on the cliff top ... and it's a very tall cliff! North Cliffs, Cornwall.

South West Peninsula Coast Path, above Greenbank Cove, Northcliffs, Cornwall. High tide; I used to come here mostly at low tide and do the coastline, rock-hopping walk along the shoreline you see here as far as Porthcadjack Cove. PAM J would understand me here! Perhaps better on full screen. Very common on marshier bits of coast.

Another of this castle but why not? The coast at Portreath / Porthtowan can be seen in the distance.

I've probably posted this before now but I've run out of new Cornwall shots so the odd repeat will have to suffice! On the coast between Portreath and Godrevy at North Cliffs. Crane Castle, so marked on OS maps, is an iron age promontary fort where only the landward defenses remain; everything else having been swept away by the sea over the centuries. The inevitable will soon happen to the colourful slope you see here and then there will be nothing left of Crane Castle. :o(

Most people take a shot in the other direction, towards Godrevy lighthouse. I just felt like doing the opposite for a change!

St Michael's Mount from Marazion, Cornwall. I can't now remember what I was thinking of when editing this. I thought about a re-edit but in the end decided to leave it as it is; partly I think because I like the clouds as they are.

Man and his Man, Cow and calf and Bawden's Rocks are just three names given to these two islets.

Taken from the same spot as the previous post, different view and separated by time of day and ten years! Miracle of miracles! 1) I found an hour of 'me' time and drove to the coast here. First time in 2 and a half weeks of being in Cornwall that I actually set eyes on the sea! 2) My phone camera actually allowed this one shot to be uploaded onto my laptop !
