Millie and Doug

Millie and Doug
Doug is a German shorthair pointer and Millie is an old, tubby Australian shepherd. The Australian Shepherd, often known simply as the "Aussie", is a medium-sized breed of dog that was, despite its name, developed on ranches in the Western United States during the 19th century.[2][3][4] The dog was developed from a breed or breeds from the Basque country in Western Europe. It was brought by Basque people to the United States. These people had previously lived only briefly in Australia before moving to America. The breed otherwise has no connection to Australia. Genetic tests show it has some relationship to the Border Collie. (Wikipedia)

Millie is on a diet. She belonged to the current owner's sister, who died a few months ago. I think "Doug" is a hilarious name for a dog!

When you start reading a bit and try to follow how the dogs we know got the way they are, it's really confusing! I had always assumed that the Aus Shepherd was an Australian cattle dog crossed with something else...
