I don't think I've ever seen one that long. He loves fire season. Now, he is rarely fighting fire, but operating equipment like Cats, water trucks, coordinating supplies and cutting down the "widow-makers" (trees already burned and in danger of falling on the crew). That's fine with me! Running up mountainsides is left to the young ones. I don't know how they do it, even at 25! Thank you, Keith.

My dad, his brothers and my grandfather were using the "misery whip" before the chain saw was invented. They logged in southern Oregon. Thanks to massive protests beginning in the 1970s, about 85% of the California redwoods (shown in the video) are now protected.
