Oh what a beautiful Winter

Pictures often tell a story. By having addition mini-pictures embedded in the same original this story can be extended.

Kuala Lumpur, National monument Park

looking towards the city centre, this also shows the Tugu Megara national monument. The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japanese occupation during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960 PiP

Memories of Armação de Pêra

20 Dec 2013 13 18 207
Postcards from Armação de Pêra in Portugal to brighten up our Winter voting day mood. Maybe they got lost in the post for over six years now :) This main capture taken from just at the edge of the main beach, which was one of the most beautiful town beaches that I have the pleasure to walk on. Behind me are large rocks with small caves and tunnels. Closer to the high rise promenade is a collection of small colourful fishing boats with their attendent fishermen attending to the nets.

Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, Montrose

07 May 2019 22 19 293
Another look at this wonderful lighthouse here at Ferryden, Montrose on Scotlands NorthEast coast. This taken looking Northwards and presenting it in quite a different light. First lit in 1870, still lit today, but as with all these, there is no lighthouse-keeper now, as it is fully automated. Enjoy full size. See Pips.

The Glenfinnan monument in average weather

23 Jan 2020 21 31 157
What a difference a day makes. The PiP's shows what the weather was like in 2016 when we were last here. This time, the blue skies and sun have entirely been replaced with squally rain and mist and I am constantly wiping the rain off my protective lens filter. A visit today, along with nearby Fort William as part of our lightning bus tour of this area. Wiki: "A minor branch of the Clan Donald, built a memorial tower at Glenfinnan to commemorate the raising of the standard of the Young Pretender: Prince Charles initially landed from France on Eriskay in the Western Isles. He then travelled to the mainland in a small rowing boat, coming ashore at Loch nan Uamh just west of Glenfinnan. On arrival on the Scottish mainland, he was met by a small number of MacDonalds. Stuart waited at Glenfinnan for a number of days as more MacDonalds, Camerons, Macfies and MacDonnells arrived. On 19 August 1745, after Prince Charles judged he had enough military support, he climbed the hill near Glenfinnan as MacMaster of Glenaladale raised his royal standard. The Young Pretender then announced to all the mustered clans he claimed the British throne in the name of his father James Stuart ('the Old Pretender'). A MacPhee (Macfie) was one of two pipers with Bonnie Prince Charlie when he raised his banner above Glenfinnan. Afterwards brandy was distributed to the assembled highlanders to celebrate the occasion. Eight months later, Charles Stuart's claim to the throne ended in failure at the Battle of Culloden on the 16 April 1746. Many Macfies, who came from Glenfinnan, followed Donald Cameron of Lochiel on the right flank of the Jacobite Army at the battle."

Ribblehead railway staion

Servicing the famous 'Settle-Carlise' railway route here is a distant view of its station (on the left) from the main road just below the Inn. Placed here to accompany my adjacent photo of the 'Station Inn' and my Ribblehead viaduct captures. (PiPs) Nice full size.

The Wonders of Mallorca: Torrent de Pareis

26 Sep 2014 21 16 172
Having arrived at the foot of the Canyon de la Calabra by boat, we followed the hordes through the small cave-tunnel to reach this beautiful idyll. Looking inland, a peaceful calm behold us but the main attraction for most that come here is behind me; the view out to the open sea through the rock gateway (see PiPs). On the far bank here runs the main river that soon disappears under the pebbles to reach the sea. Enjoy full size.

A promoted PiP here. I just wanted to show a real winter comparison to the adjacent photo so this is a relatively small photo . My pleasure to share.

Marseilles: upside-down

04 Jun 2023 24 25 160
“Hang-on to your hats, bags and money as you walk upside down on this sticky ceiling.” An amazing sight greets us with this large sheltered area here in the city of Marseilles. The roof ceiling is in fact most mirror-like and reflects the world below with little distortion. A tourist ‘must’ for selfies and Ipernity entries but soon one has a slight pain in the neck :) The pip shows the normal view Best full screen.

Barmouth Viaduct

25 Jul 2023 21 14 93
We are looking at the famous Barmouth viaduct here on the River Mawddach estuary. It is in fact the longest timber viaduct in Wales at 820m and the oldest in regular use. It was opened in 1867 and carries the Cambrian Railway line. It is also a pedestrian and cycle path. We don't see the impressive swing bridge here to the left for that is for another photo capture. The small town of Barmouth sits to the left too. We are standing near the terminus station of the Fairbourne Narrow gauge railway. The valley between the highest peaks here is were I took my Cregennan Lake and Pared-y-Cefn-hir photos from. see 3xPips Enjoy full screen.
