The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway
A look at this lift that quickly transports you to the top of this high cliff to the village of Lynton. Taken from the sister village Lynmouth harbour area itself, the LLCR is in fact the highest and steepest totally water powered railway (funicular) in the world. It was opened in 1890, rises 500ft (152 m) and is 862ft (262.7 m) long. - No, we did not go on it this time but we have done so in the past.
See PiP for entrance view

Yes, but it is relatively expensive. Still a great experience.

I continually marvel at Victorian engineering Keith. Their stuff will still be going long after ours had rotted away, fallen down or failed for the last time. Makes you ashamed to be of this age! OK- off my pedestal now - yes it is a great thing here and had I had time I would have loved to try it again. Glad you liked it. I think I have been on the one at Hastings too. A good few years back now.

Cheers. Herb

A great shot Herb. I remember this well. I hate heights and insisted I was walking back down after a trip up to the top digging my nails into poor Roger's hand! I hadn't reckoned on the steep slope back down though, in unsuitable footwear!!
