Wheat ears (or Barley heads?)

Wheat ears (or Barley heads?)
Bringing home the summer of 16 we see here a snapshot of a tiny part of a vast field of wheat. This taken in our county of Lincolnshire that has quite a few fields of such. Not only did I like the shape but also the texture and sound of this crop.

Enjoy full size.

thanks Gordon. You have not lived if you have not heard the sound of dry ripe wheat. You must be quiet close and have your head close. It is a dry crispy rustle that is very pleasing to hear.

Best Wishes. Herb

I'm pretty sure this is barley as well Herb.............but no matter, it's a beautiful image! Sharp where it needs to be with a lovely light golden-brown colour.

You got me there Keith. (perhaps getting me back :) ) Now when I compare this wheat to Barley heads it does look more like barley to me too. Peter below, thinks its Bearded wheat. My further research though does seem to point that more barley is grown in Lincolnshire where this was photographed. Glad you liked it.

Cheers, Herb

Haha, you, Neira-Dan and Keith have got me thinking now. I think it does resemble barley a little more but....
