A Chew Valley walk

A Chew Valley walk
A January walk along the old railway line contour of Chew Valley here in Greenfield. The line was used to haul stone from nearby quarries in order to build the high Chew Reservoir and associated tunnels from 1907 to 1912 (see pips). The misty rock peak is actually the top of 'Indians Head'.

Note, this is excellent dog-walking country :)

Aye, there must be a few Chew Valleys about I think Rosa. The valley is very wild, especially in winter but that is its charm too as there is a good tarmac lane going from Dovetones to the top which is traffic free so you see a lot of people going up and down the valley as kind of a test of health and stamina. Glad you liked it.

A bit bleak on that day but always worth a look Gordon. I took more of one of my lobe birch trees on here too so might even post that sometime.

What you say is right Keith but the wall at the bottom left is part of a buttress keeping the line in place on that steep traverse. It does look as if it is dry-stone though. Glad you liked it.

On closer inspection I see what you mean.........I guess the construction needs to be much stronger!
