Port Mulgrave from the south

Port Mulgrave from the south
A rather fine view down the cliffs to this old port taken form the coastal path. The old port can only be explored now by boat or torturous cliff steps.
The old part, a derelict former ironstone exporting port lies on the North Yorkshire coast midway between Staithes and Runswick Bay. The modern hamlet is situated just to the left of that red roofed house on top of the cliffs.

Enjoy full screen.

Vielen dank Lothar. Yes this is a wonderful coast line of colour and character along with history. I shall show and explain more abut those 'little houses' in my next photos.

Good capture. It reminds me of Trevaunance Cove, the port for St Agnes in Cornwall. They tried 3-4 times to make a going concern of it but each time a violent storm swept it away.

Aye, i too have visited that old Trevaunance Cove, so know exactly what you mean. I don't really think that this small old port could ever have been anything practical in our modern times. It was of its day -as we say.

Very flowery and wooded slope that contrasts with the one on the opposite side that goes down to the beach.
Does this still have traces of the old port?
Wonderful image, Herb!
Thanks also for the text

Yes these steep slopes are full of bushes and small trees. All rather dangerous as this coastline is famous for collapsing. The port, I will tell you more over the next few days of my photos here.
Glad you enjoyed this.

I seem to remember pictures of Port Mulgrave on Panoramio, I always liked the look of the place. I'm trying to think of the chap's name, but it escapes me at the moment. You have captured this overview beautifully Herb.
Happy Wednesday, Rosa.

Maybe it was our friend Jim Evans who posted such a photo on there. It was the first time I had seen it, last year. More photos and history in my next few uploads Rosa. Thanks for the call.

A fine vantage point Herb.............and I like the gorse bushes in the foreground. The cliffs and coast are really beautiful and you've captured them in great detail. I love the blue tones of the sea and sky..............a cracking shot sir!

Yes the gorse bushes always look great on these hills and cliff-tops. This demonstrates again, that perfect high-contrast sunny weather is not always needed. More from around here soon.
