The Huddersfield narrow canal at Uppermill

The Huddersfield narrow canal at Uppermill
A Winter's view of this popular canal at the Saddleworth village of Uppermill looking west. In front of us is the aptly named Saddleworth Viaduct carying the Transpennine Railway line to Yorkshire.

Definitely a popular place for walkers, which is hardly surprising.

Are you sure it's Winter? The pink bushes there seems the begin of the Spring.

Hello Daniela. This is the Cornus plant that always has a red shade. It is grown particularly for its red stems. Not really a tree though. It is also known as 'Dogwood'.

I see. I read there are many kind of cornus. This one in italian is called Sanguinella, blood bush, for its colour.

I think you definitely chose right to have this as the main image Herb. The composition is spot-on and I love the beautifully distorted reflection of the viaduct. The diffused light has brought out some fantastic detail and textures, especially in the brickwork.

A wonderful shot with two lovely PiPs!

Good that you enjoyed this local scene Keith, just a 20 minute drive from my home. I had to go back here to get this after catching the viaduct over at Sowerby Bridge and realising that I did not have the reflections of this from Uppermill. Glad yo enjoyed it. ~ Herb

Nice perspective on the viaduct Herb. I remember seeing pictures of the tunnel gates when on Panoramio, taken by Ian from Huddersfield. The gates tell the story well. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa, I seem to remember an Ian from Panoramio too -maybe the same person. Glad you enjoyed these takes. I had the full story of Stanage tunnel too on Panoramio but it is only a PiP here.

Hi Herb

A very nice picture, which I really like, and from a place I now recognise!!!!
We must have stood in exactly the same spot (up against the road bridge).

The scene works really well in winter with no leaves on the trees, giving that great reflection.

Best Wishes, a nice weekend, and stay safe!!
