The Linn of Dee

The Linn of Dee
The mighty Scottish River Dee is shoehorned into a narrow rocky chasm as it tumbles under this fine road bridge. The Linn O' Dee gives unrivalled access to some fine examples of classic features of the Highland landscape: remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest abound here. The beautiful Glenn Lui and its river finishes just a short distance below this spot too and other paths climb higher into the heather moorland and parts of the high Cairngorm plateau.

The bridge is the highest crossing point of the Dee and, thanks to its relative proximity to Balmoral, it enjoyed the honour of being opened by Queen Victoria in 1857.

A really well composed photo showing all the beauty of this place! Isn't the Linn of Dee the starting point for the (in)famous Lairig Ghru? That treck would have been beyond my abilities even in my hillwalking days;-)

Good to see you here glancing at my Scottish snaps. You are right, the Lairig Ghru path does start or end here (the other end is at Coylumbridge some 19 miles away). A walk that is much too difficult for us. I think there were many other walks from here too. A beautiful spot here and we were blessed by good weather too. You must like these wild places as I have followed your Icelandic exploits too.
