Piazza Grande sui tetti di Gubbio
Piazza Grande a Gubbio, tra le più suggestive realizzazioni urbanistiche medievali, fu costruita a partire dal 1321: fu realizzata nel baricentro della città, con imponenti lavori di sistemazione delle strutture di sostegno dello spazio pensile e degli stessi edifici, che appaiono quasi sovradimensionati rispetto al nucleo storico.
Palazzo dei Consoli, l'unico portato a termine, eleva la sua mole emergendo sopra la città da qualunque visuale e relazionandosi con la "Platea Communis", che accoglie la Cattedrale.
Lo spazio è fortemente scenografico ed è proiettato verso la campagna grazie alla terrazza panoramica.
La fine delle autonomie comunali, con l'avvento della signoria dei Gabrielli (1350), segna anche l'interruzione dei lavori: il Palazzo Pretorio rimarrà incompiuto mentre le sostruzioni della piazza saranno completate solo nel 1482.

Piazza Grande in Gubbio, among the most enchanting medieval urban designs, was built starting from 1321: it was executed in the city’s epicentre, through imposing renovation works of the structures supporting the balcony space and the buildings, which appear slightly oversized compared to their setting.
The bulk of Consoli Palace, the only completed building, rises and dominates the skyline from any point of view and relates with the “Platea Communis" housing the Cathedral.
The space is highly scenic and is oriented towards the countryside thanks to the panoramic terrace.
The end of communal autonomyi with the arrival of the Gabrielli Dominion (1350) also marks the interruption of building works: the Pretorio Palace remains incomplete whereas the square’s buildings were completed only in 1482.

Yes, middle of August . Here is Central Italy and maybe where I live, in the North is always a bit fresh. But it was a very nice tour. And I made another in the last week-end. Before we are all hill or cannot go out of the house, as it was in March.
