Ice drifting down from the lake
The ice that the icebreakers freed up in the lake is moving toward the river. Often the ice piles up at that point and endangers freighters trying to get into the lake. A year before this scene a 1000 ft long freighter was pushed sideways from the lake into the river under the bridge and almost crushed an icebreaker that was assisting the freighter. Several icebreakers had to rush to the scene and after many hours of difficult maneuvers the freighter was finally freed.
