First cicada of spring
Magicicada sp.
I spotted this cicada with its exoskeleton on the exterior wall of my house early this morning. Millions of these are predicted to emerge in the southeastern USA this year. All individuals of this species emerge from their underground burrows every 13 years. This is the first one I saw this morning. Several more emerged later in the morning.
